Mid-century staircase opened up to allow in light and some style

An unfortunate hallmark of 50s design were homes often divided into smaller rooms by unnecessary walls or poorly placed cabinetry. The main floor of this home underwent a complete transformation by removing these walls, remodeling the staircase, followed by an extensive kitchen remodel (see project #3). In keeping with the age and feel of the house, we brought in contemporary design that might also be reminescent of mid-century design. The wood and steel railings allow an openess and expansion of the stairwell that was otherwise completely blocked by a closet.
